LO3: Critically analyse specific processes and functions that apply to a layered network model, with specific reference to TCP/IP; Subnet a network using multi-level subnetting and provide a subnetted IP design based on a given topology or business profile.
LO4: Apply the advanced knowledge gained to reflect on the security requirements of a network. Evaluate the issues that surround network applications such as quality of service (QoS) and network performance analysis. Be adaptable to changing requirements.
Task
THE JOURNAL ARTICLE REVIEW:
The purpose of this assignment is to help you understand how research is conducted and reported in Information Technology related fields. You are asked to read a peer-reviewed article from a scholarly journal in the field of Advanced Networking and Communication Systems. Articles of this type will typically report on original research or replications of previously conducted experiments, or they will be literature reviews in which the author(s) present the results of a literature search on a specific topic. In the latter case, the article will usually be a dissertation on the most current thinking on a specific topic.

Task1: Locate an appropriate article
- You can download any peer-reviewed journal from the field of Information Technology, Networking, and Advanced Communication Systems that includes security.
- You should limit your search to Full text
Scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals
Published in the past 5 years or, you can come and see your lecturer during office hours, or during consultation hours.
Task 2: Summarize and discuss the content of the article.
Task 3: Explain and critique the methods used and/or the findings presented.
Task 4: Conclude with your opinion.
Submission Criteria:
The report should have a consistent, professional, and well-organized appearance with a 12- point font size and at least single line spacing with appropriate section headings.
- Your report should include the following:
- The word limit of the report is 1500 words.
- The cover page must identify the student name and the Student ID, unit details, assignment details, and lecturer details.
Assignment details: Author(s). Article title. Journal name, volume, number, pages, year of publication.

- A late penalty applies on late submission, 10% per day would be deducted.
- The assignments will go through Turnitin and a plagiarism penalty will be applied.

PART B
This assessment item relates to the unit learning outcomes as in the unit descriptors.
L01: Identify the operation of the protocols that are used inside the Internet and use the seven-layer model to classify networking topology, protocol, and security needs.
LO2: Evaluate LAN technology issues, including routing and flow control. Explain the difference between switches and routers. Build and troubleshoot Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Leased line networks. Connect networks with routers.
Scenario:
You are a Network and Security Engineer for ABC Consulting Private Limited, which is a leading network and security provider for small and medium scaled offices.
Task 1: Your task is to propose a network design for the small-scaled company and sketch a basic logical network diagram of the office with 5 departments. You are free to assume:
- Name of the Office and Departments
- Networking Hardware such as routers, switches, hubs, modems wireless access points, firewalls, etc.
Task 2: Using your expert knowledge of the TCP/IP Model and its layers, sketch the TCP/IP protocols and identify at least one protocol used by each layer.
Task 3: At each level of the TCP/IP model, there are security vulnerabilities and therefore, security prevention measures that can be taken to ensure that enterprise applications are protected. As a network and security engineer, your task is to identify the security threats and propose a solution for each layer.
The report should be prepared in Microsoft Word and uploaded to the LMS. The word limit of the report is 2000 words. The report should be properly constructed as an academic report. The report should include references in IEEE style.
